Supporting anti FGM activists in Sierra Leone with Global Media Campaign

Olwyn has been working with Global Media Campaign on a campaign in Sierra Leone to bring to an end the practice of FGM, where 89% of women undergo this harmful practice. The country’s secret women-only Bondo societies put FGM at the heart of their ceremonies. Global Media Campaign supports grassroots activists to use the media to bring about a change in hearts and minds around the practice of FGM. In August following a donation from Olwyn the team in Sierra Leone took to the airwaves, with 16 media campaigns all over the country, that reached a staggering 2.7million listeners. Olwyn will continue to work with GMC and the incredible activist-led work that they support in the run up to the Day of the Girl in October and beyond.
